about

STEM Champions of Baltimore, Inc. (SCB) operates a wide range of STEM programs across Baltimore City. The organization runs the city’s largest broad-based STEM competition program and supports students through high school choice events, career exploration opportunities, and the development of specialized STEM curricula. SCB also partners with Baltimore City Schools, the University of Maryland, and local nonprofits to provide summer STEM programs and training that expand access and opportunity for youth.

The mission of STEM Champions of Baltimore centers on engaging underrepresented populations and sustaining students along a pathway of aspiration and opportunity. The organization has established strong partnerships through more than eight years of collaboration with Baltimore City Schools’ Office of Teaching and Learning, the deans of engineering and science at Morgan State University, and the Johns Hopkins Center for Educational Outreach, as well as through networks with other organizations focused on after-school programming.

Why We Exist:

In Baltimore City, too many students lack consistent access to STEM education, especially in under-resourced schools. This often leads to missed opportunities in developing STEM skills and confidence, further widening the equity gap and limiting future career paths.

Baltimore STEM Champions exists to change that. We connect Baltimore youth with hands-on STEM experiences through programs like Science Olympiad, mentorship, and school-based workshops. Our mission is to empower students from historically excluded communities by building long-term pathways into science, engineering, and technology, starting early and continuing through high school and beyond.
